Bandai Spirits — former video game company Bandai Namco — is a Japanese-based producer of toys such as plastic model kits and action figures. They’re known for Dragon Ball, Pac-Man, and Tamagotchi, to name a few.

Project Details

With the pandemic impacting Bandai’s typical marketing initiatives, which included turnkey tradeshow services with Foster for several years, they had to move to another plan. Enter Tamashii Nations, a pop up shop in New York City aimed at promoting Godzilla vs Kong and generating sales.

In early 2021 Foster (then Marketing Genome) teamed up with Foresight to help operate the pop up shop, and after a couple of months of scouting venues landed a prime spot in an old Sunglass Hut on Fifth Avenue.

3D Renders to Set the Scene

To showcase our vision to the Bandai team, we started with the 3D renders of what the pop up shop would look like after a restoration of the old location. Foster strives to make all of our renders as accurate as possible. Check it out for yourself; it looks as if you could step right in.

Fabrication

The location was in okay condition but not great, so plenty of cleaning, repair, and planning had to be done in order to fabricate the pop up shop. New York City also presents challenges when it comes to logistics. No loading dock and busy streets certainly makes things a bit more difficult when it comes to offloading materials. Foster handled all designs, permits, labor, fabrication, and everything else in between for a seamless and easy project for Bandai.

For this installation, we used a variety of metal extrusions and SEG fabric to skin the perimeter walls. Why this route and not drywall? This is a temporary setup, not permanent, so we have to be mindful of that. Couple that with a limited number of days for install. This method allowed us to produce a pop up shop that would not only get set up quickly but it would not require us to rewire electrical, damage drywall, or do anything that could damage the venue. A win for everyone.
